    Food Specialist for Guests with Dietary Restrictions:

    To prepare the meals for each person/camper with a special diet and deliver them to the proper kitchen.  This involves speaking with parents and campers to understand their needs, keeping track of all the special foods for each person. 
    Deciding how and what to feed each person for each meal, 3 meals a day.  This position would have Saturday off, part of Sunday and part of another day off. 

    This person needs to have a keen interest in special diets and nutrition, either because they are studying in that field or they themselves are on a special diet.  This person would be reading labels constantly, researching information about foods and diets. They need to be very focused, organized, clean, tidy, able to work under-pressure in fast pace environment. Food Handlers Certificate. Drivers license with good driving record.
    This job would start the beginning of May and end September 3 (dates flexible).  Compensation, Accommodations and Meals provided. 

    Quonset Manager:

    Looks after all food stock. Receives deliveries from suppliers 3 to 4 times a week, puts stock away, keeps inventory current, delivers food to each of our 4 kitchens daily.  Keeps track of what is in each kitchen.  Keeps track of the number of people each kitchen is feeding so that they can help with preparing the orders for restocking the warehouse and each kitchen. Answer the quonset phone and respond to each request.  Good to have cooked in the kitchens so that they have an understanding of what the cooks will be doing, so that they can offer assistance/guidance when they deliver the food.   Would have 1 day off durning week and part days on the weekend. 

    This person should have a Food Handlers Certificate. Drivers License with clean driving record. Be a detail oriented person, computer skills,  mechanical aptitude, good listener and good phone manners.  Kitchen experience as a cook and dishwasher helpful.  This job would start the beginning of May and end September 3 (dates flexible).  Compensation, Accommodations and Meals provided. 

    Kitchen Manager and Cook:

    In Spring months prepare meals for Staff and Guest Groups, clean, prepare and stock summer kitchens.  In the Summer months look after the kitchens to keep all food supplies and equipment in proper location, assist with preparing meals by helping the head cook as needed and fill in for other staff's days off.

    This person should enjoy cooking and preparing food, have a Food Handlers Certificate, be comfortable working in a commercial kitchen, have a drivers license, be a clean, tidy and organized person.  Start beginning of May until September 3 (dates flexible).  Compensation, Accommodations and Meals provided.

    The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager ensures that quality standards and procedures are met and aligned with legislation and customer specifications. This individual is responsible for managing the organizations quality assurance policies, establish performance standards, procedures, and audit controls in order to meet business requirements, as well as Identify and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of company operations.

    Job Duties:

    • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities and operations of the Quality Assurance department.
    • Provide leadership developing and directing QA and quality improvement initiatives for all company products and services.
    • Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
    • Act as primary contact for CFIA, auditors, customer’s QA related queries or complaints.
    • Ensure procedures are made available that satisfy Company, Regulatory and Customer requirements for food safety and quality
    • Fulfills roles as dictated by Quality Management System and HACCP Program as key person or as back up.

    • Perform risk analyses, verification and validation activities as applicable.
    • To authorize release of the product upon reviewing the data provided by QA / SQF Practitioner.

    • Perform internal QA audits that are compliant with company and GFSI policies, standards, and procedures.
    • Coordinate with department Managers for preparation of plant audits performed by governmental and private regulatory bodies.
    • Receive and process customers’ quality complaints and provide feedback after coordination with the respective departmental managers and the plant manager.
    • Develop and maintain QA reporting and documentation system.

    Skills/Qualifications:

    • Degree in Food Science or related field
    • 5-7 years’ experience in Food Industry preferably in Quality assurance.
    • Able to develop, review, and maintain metrics and quality audits.
    • Fully trained in HACCP and GFSI requirements.
    • Extremely detail-oriented and analytical thinker.
    • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, customers, and government agencies.
    • Good judgment skills.
    • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude with excellent leadership spirit.
    • Highly motivated and self-directed capable of multi-tasking and able to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced production environment.

    LOCATION:    Elmira facility
    HOURS:    Full time position. Day shift Monday- Friday, some weekend work may be required during busy periods.

    Our plant is growing and we are looking for a great Quality Manager to grow with us!

    POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The Quality Manager’s chief responsibility is to maintain BRC certification for the Processing Plant by supporting and maintaining the food safety culture within the plant. This position reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the maintenance, development and implementation of HACCP Plans, SOP procedures for the Martins Processing Division and all other records related to the BRC Food Safety Program. The Quality Manager is a leader in food safety culture for the plant and will be well versed in methods and theory of food microbiology allowing them to actively manage the Environmental Monitoring Program and further develop the micro testing program if required. The incumbent will be responsible for daily departmental administration functions with regard to the Food Safety System and Quality System to meet and exceed BRC/ CFIA/ FSMA requirements. The incumbent will develop and maintain and execute the training matrix for all staff as well as implement QC Technician Training and have the ability to act as a backup QC Technician if required. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Monitor, maintain and revise prerequisite programs
    • Act as Internal Auditor and manage the  BRC Internal Audit Program
    • Perform risk assessments to determine requirements for BRC program
    • Lead the HACCP Team and monitor, maintain and revise and create HACCP Plans for food processing plant
    • Develop, implement and train new policies and procedures to Elmira processing staff
    • Monitor product attributes to ensure product quality is at targeted levels through verification of records and physical activities.
    • Plan and develop quality-related procedures and systems
    • Training and advising personnel in QC and food safety procedures and policies
    • Manages QC staff, including scheduling, employee discipline and support of staff development

    • Provides guidance and direction to plant and QC personnel in developing corrective action.
    • Maintenance of corporate policies relating to Food Safety and Quality.
    • Liaises with customers in matters relating to Food Safety, Quality and Product Development
    • Provides all necessary information for surveys, requests and questions from external customers.
    • Assist in QC testing within the processing plant when necessary.
    • Lead and/or participate R&D projects as appropriate
    • Act as a leader for QC micro testing. Will be capable of performing all micro related tasks, developing testing parameters and troubleshooting issues related to micro results.
    • Responsible for keeping the organization informed of all relevant legislative, scientific and technical developments in the processed fruit/vegetable industry:
      • Processed fruit/vegetable regulations and or standards  according to the CFIA
      • Industry regulations and standards applicable in the country of raw material supply, production and county where products are to be sold.
    • Conduct Monthly BRC review meetings
    • Develop new products and packaging concepts under SRED
    • Other projects as assigned by Management.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree or other post-secondary education in Food Science, or related discipline such as Microbiology, Chemistry, and Biotechnology.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience working in QA/QC role in food manufacturing, preferably in a GFSI recognized food safety environment.
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in development, implementation and revision of HACCP/ Food Safety Plans and pre requisite programs and microbiology testing.
    • Previous experience in a management or supervisory role preferred.
    • Effectively conveys information verbally and in writing and uses active listening skills.
    • Computer / Technical Literacy - MS Office.
    • Strength in documentation, observation and communication skills are a must.
    • Flexible, adaptable, highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
    • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work on a team.
    • Planning, organizing, decision making and problem solving skills.

    REASONING ABLITY:

    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of technical information in mathematical and/or narrative form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • The employee is required to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, climb, reach overhead and bend to the floor.
    • Exert 10 -50 pounds of force occasionally and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
    • The employee is subject to a production environment 20-40% of the work time.
    • High noise levels from machinery.
    • Physical hazards from moving machine parts.
    • Areas of the plant operate at temperatures below 10°C to maintain apple freshness; the QC Manager will be working primarily in a lab or office setting at room temperature and will work in the cold, wet areas for short periods of time.

    IN CASE OF ABSENCE OF THE QC MANAGER:

    • Decisions related to food safety and quality will be the responsibility of the QC staff with support from the Lead QC Technician (day shift) and direction from the Plant Manager.
    • Verification of paperwork will be the responsibility of the Plant Manager, another HACCP Team member or Lead QC Technician.

    Education and/or Experience

    • Degree or Diploma in Food Sciences, Min. 2 years in a food production Quality Assurance and/or HACCP
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical and food safety data involving typical microbiological and other analysis related to food processing techniques.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Programs
    • Willingness to learn and grow in the job and to be able to multi-task
