The research approach section provides a detailed outline of the methodology established for this study. An initial scope establishes relevant factors and their associated characteristics. Next, a model is developed using factor characteristics and GIS tools and practices to evaluate the feasibility of amalgamation. This model is then applied to the Region of Waterloo, complemented with an in depth workflow analysis. Finally, the model is evaluated for its ability to analyze the implications of amalagamation and the models suitability in assessing an amalgamation proposal.
Objective 1- Identify factors that pertain to the proposed amalgamation of municipalities in Ontario.
Objective 2- Develop a GIS-based model to evaluate potential amalgamation incorporating factors identified in Objective 1.
Objective 3- Apply the developed GIS-based model to the hypothetical amalgamation of The Region of Waterloo.
Objective 4- Evaluate the effectiveness of this model and other spatial tools for assessing this, and future amalgamation proposals within the Province of Ontario.
