Research ApproachFor the purposes of this study, four objectives are developed to define areas of viable habitat for Algonquin wolves and to assess the proportion of habitat at risk for loss due to wildfires. The first objective requires extensive research of relevant academic literature to identify variables implemented as criteria and constraints in the study. The second research objective generates the MCE model to examine suitable wolf habitat within Algonquin Provincial Park. The MCE model with imposed fire risk is also produced. Application of the model to observe the proportion of habitat at low risk for wildfire is achieved in the third objective through analysis and presentation. Finally, the fourth and final objective evaluates the applied GIS-based model on its strengths and limitations. The specific objectives discussed are achieved using ESRI ArcGIS 10.5 and Microsoft Excel 2016. Objective 1: To identify factors related to habitat suitability for Algonquin wolves Objective 2: To develop a GIS-based multi-criteria evaluation model for suitable habitat prediction Objective 3: To apply the model to predict areas of suitable habitat at low risk for wildfires in Algonquin Provincial Park Objective 4: To evaluate the strengths and limitations of the GIS-based habitat suitability model Previous Page: Home Page: |
