The following approach pursues four research objectives, in order to identify the areas of greatest heat-vulnerability in Montreal, QC. The first objective presents the socioeconomic and environmental factors that influence heat-vulnerability. Objective two describes the development of the GIS model used in the following objective. The third objective describes the application of the GIS based model, including a hot-spot analysis to determine areas of most significant risk. Lastly, the fourth objective analyzes the model outputs and discusses strengths and weaknesses.
Objective 1: Identify factors related to heat vulnerability and tree canopy heat mitigation
Objective 2: Develop a GIS model to identify areas of greatest susceptibility to heat-related illness
Objective 3: Apply the model to the City of Montreal to identify census tracts with the least tree-cover and greatest heat vulnerability
Objective 4: Evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, and accuracy of the model
