Supply – cost curves generated by raster and vector models were compared to understand the spatial distribution and transportation costs of bioenergy feedstock resources. The following objectives were used to explain how this was achieved. This research project required the implementation of Microsoft Excel and two extensions from ArcGIS 10.2; Network Analyst (NA) and Spatial Analyst (SA).
Objective 1: To identify variables and factors necessary to model cost-supply curves for bioenergy production.
Objective 2: To use raster and vector based models in order to determine yield of different bioenergy feedstock sources at different distances from potential bio-refinery plants.
Objective 3: To determine the cost of extracting different bioenergy feedstock sources and bring this to bio-refinery plants by inputting results from objective 2 into excel spreadsheet formulas.
Objective 4: To perform simple statistical analysis and assessment of limitations and strengths of both models, in order to determine the existence and reason behind possible significant differences on cost-supply curves.
