Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada (SWAAC): 

Graduate Student Awards of Merit & Student Award in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

 

All required application materials for each of the following awards should be sent electronically (grschol@uoguelph.ca) or in hard copy to the Graduate Awards Officers, Office of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies, 3rd floor UC, no later than January 4, 2019.

 

SWAAC Graduate Student Awards of Merit

  • Description/Value: SWAAC is offering five Graduate Student Awards of Merit, each in the amount of $3,000, to women graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the university or general community while maintaining exemplary academic records. The recipients for 2019 will be selected from nominations submitted by universities in Ontario and will be announced at the annual SWAAC Conference to be held in Waterloo April 26-17, 2019, and hosted by Wilfrid Laurier University, Conestoga College, and the University of Waterloo. 

  • Eligibility: 2019 Ontario-wide competition (the University of Guelph is a Member Institution of Universities Canada); must be a woman registered in a Master’s or PhD program. 

  • Criteria: 1) Outstanding academic performance AND 2) Evidence of leadership including, but not limited to: executive positions in student organizations, committee participation, organization of special events and conferences, advocacy group involvement, volunteer involvement (campus and/or community).

  • Application Procedures: Each University may nominate only one nominee via the Graduate Studies office. Apply with all necessary documentation including biographical data (1-2 pages), curriculum vitae, academic records, and three letters of reference.   • Internal Deadline & Review Process: Application package due to the OGPS Awards Officers to grschol@uoguelph.ca no later than January 4, 2019. The one nomination that will move forward to the Ontario competition will be selected by an Internal University-wide Awards Committee. 

 

SWAAC Student Award in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

  • Description/Value: One award of $3,000 given annually to a woman university or college student who advances equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within and/or outside their institution through outstanding dedication and excellence or community outreach and activism. 

  • Eligibility: 2019 Ontario-wide competition; must be a woman registered in a university/college program; should demonstrate exceptional commitment to and engagement with a particular issue of social justice, community, and/or community organization. 

  • Criteria: 1) Outstanding academic performance AND 2) Evidence of leadership with respect to EDI including, but not limited to: involvement in student organizations, committee participation, organization of special events and conferences, advocacy group involvement, volunteer involvement (campus and/or community).

  • Application Procedures: Each University may nominate only one nominee. Apply with all necessary documentation including biographical data (1-2 pages), curriculum vitae, academic records, and three letters of reference. Please see SWAAC’s website for more details on the application.
