About the campus and food...

You can walk from one end of campus to the other easily within 10 minutes, and only have to cross one major road if you’re headed east/west (none if travelling north/south).  The arboretum is absolutely beautiful, and a great place to go for a lunch time walk on those days that you need an escape from the office/lab. The cafeterias are excellent, and cater to every type of eater. There are always vegan and vegetarian options available, and everything is labeled with potential allergens.

Surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in clinical pathogens of livestock.

Continuing at Guelph...

I was a Guelph student for a long time; I had started my undergraduate degree here in 2003, and just couldn't leave! The atmosphere at Guelph is warm, accepting, and supportive, and there are so many services that can be accessed easily if you need them (also, you must see campus during the summer; you will fall in love.) Upon finishing my undergraduate degree, I couldn’t picture myself studying at any other university, so I continued on for a MSc, and a PhD!

About My Advisor...

I have a great relationship with my advisor, and I strongly believe that a good relationship with your advisor is vital for success in graduate school. Being comfortable enough to tell them if you’re having difficulties is extremely important, and I am happy to say that I had found that with my advisor. We communicated on a regular basis in formal meetings regarding ideas or problems surrounding my project, and about day to day happenings over lunch!

My Future Plans...

The atmosphere in Guelph is so unique. Coming from a small town, a city with more than 100,000 people can be a little intimidating at first, but Guelph has a “small town” feel. People are friendly and courteous, and volunteering is a common activity for many citizens. The city promotes green living through integrated garbage/recycling/compost programs, considerable public transit coverage, a large trail system, and bike lanes on most major streets. Active, environmentally conscious people will love this city!
