Mourning the Loss of Ghanimat Azhdari and Milad Ghasemi

Posted on Thursday, January 9th, 2020

The Graduate Student Association mourns the loss of our fellow friends and colleagues, Ghanimat Azhdari and Milad Ghasemi, who were among the passengers on flight PS752 which crashed near Tehran last night.

Ghanimat Azhdari was a PhD student in the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics, and Milad Ghasemi Ariani was a PhD student in the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies.

Today, we are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. The memories of Ghanimat and Milad will forever remain a part of our graduate student body at the University of Guelph.

Our thoughts go out to the families of these graduate students, as well as the faculty, staff, and students of the departments of Geography and Marketing, and to anyone else affected by this tragedy.

In addition to the University of Guelph supports and resources - which are always available to our students, faculty, and staff - the Graduate Student Association kindly reminds the university community that we share and open our space for counselling sessions, and provide resources for counselling off campus through the provisions of our health benefits.

For more information on access to health services and resources, please feel free to contact our GSA Vice President Finance, Melanie Davis (she/her), at gsavpfin@uoguelph.ca.

On behalf of the GSA Executive,

David Said, President and CEO
