Laboratory Services Division (LSD) is a diverse service laboratory consisting of two operational units: the Animal Health Laboratory and the Agriculture and Food Laboratory. LSD provides analytical and diagnostic testing services to clients in the private sector, government and academia. LSD is a values-based organization, and the Analyst III will support the Division’s values: Client Centered, Integrity, Individuals Matter, Shared Responsibility, and Committed to Evolving.

Reporting to the Manager, Information Technology, the Analyst III, will play a critical role in delivering web application solutions, managing web development and hosting for Drupal and/or Cold Fusion and will collaborate with other campus communities on a project to develop a disease monitoring surveillance application.

This position draws upon a range of business analysis, agile project management, website development and maintenance, customer service and technical support experiences, and a broad technical skill set, to deliver high quality service to LSD’s clients and users. The successful candidate will work closely with other teammates, building strong relationships and collaborating to achieve team goals. The ideal candidate is an individual leader, demonstrating strengths in non-technical behaviours that model the way for others.

Requirements of the position include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in software engineering / computer science, or a related field, along with several years of experience in web technologies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Solid working knowledge of Oracle Database 11g/ Microsoft SQL;
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in information management and database systems;
  • Strong interpersonal skills (oral and written) with ability to work effectively with both business clients and technical team members;
  • Excellent analytical ability and thorough understanding of large-scale information technology applications and information management practices;
  • Project management skills and experience.

  • Previous experience in a higher education institution with demonstrated leadership and highly developed skills in collaboration, communication and time management;
  • Proven experience in a competitive business environment with a culture of continuous improvement;
  • Previous experience delivering solutions using the Drupal content management system;
  • Previous experience delivering accessible web solutions in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0;
  • Previous experience in agile methodologies;
  • Previous experience with enterprise database systems focusing on Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server databases and various ETL and monitoring tools and processes;
  • Previous experience with mobility application development.
