The Office of the Dean at the Ontario Veterinary College is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to provide operational support to the Marketing & Communications department. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will work collaboratively with their department and colleagues across the college to promote OVC’s programs and services through a broad range of marketing, communications, digital and event activities.

Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Communications and working closely with two Marketing Communications Officers, the Coordinator will have strong foundational communications, marketing, writing, editing, and design skills to effectively design and disseminate engaging, objective-driven stories and materials across various digital and print mediums, including OVC’s website, social media platforms, digital signs, magazines, brochures, backgrounders, fact sheets, etc.

With strong listening, collaboration, and organizational skills, the Coordinator will work in consultation with their colleagues to promote, advocate and support the OVC’s work across all departments and programs. With the help of an $11M gift, the OVC will utilize some of the funds to allow the college to envision a more equitable future for veterinary education and healthcare – enhancing our communications team is an important strategy in achieving this goal.

The primary activities and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Developing communications and marketing materials to promote OVC programs and services, including web stories, news releases, research synopses, social media posts, digital signs, brochures, etc.
  • Maintaining and updating OVC’s website with the support of OVC’s digital strategy team: i.e., posting stories to the OVC news hub, monitoring the website for functionality and AODA compliance, and assisting appropriate content owners to ensure a positive user experience for visitors to the website.
  • Creating and maintaining public-facing profiles for OVC faculty and staff.
  • Maintaining a digital asset database (photos, videos) for the college.
  • Coordinating the creating and distribution of OVC’s weekly internal e-newsletter, OVC Bulletin.
  • Assisting in the coordination of incoming media requests.
  • Providing support as requested for speaking notes, presentation and written materials, research and other requests that will help promote OVC’s programs and services. 

Requirements of this position include:

  • A degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of professional work experience in communications and marketing.
  • A strong working knowledge of marketing communications practices; research, analysis, writing, editing, graphic design, content planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in communications and familiarity with website and e-marketing tools and channels (i.e., CMS tools including Drupal and/or WordPress, social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn).
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to set priorities, effectively manage time, follow direction and undertake a range of duties in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
