Under the direction of the Manager, Electrical Shop, Maintenance and Energy Services, the Electrician is responsible for the maintenance and alterations of electrical distribution, fire alarm and motor control systems working from work orders, drawings, sketches and/or oral instructions. The incumbent will carry out preventive maintenance, repairs and alterations while safely working in accordance with the University policies and procedures, regulations, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The incumbent will be expected to conduct himself/herself in a polite, tactful, diplomatic and respectful manner at all times and remain current in their trade. The incumbent will be expected to participate in the shop call-in list as well as take training provided or arranged by the employer. A candidate from off-campus will be expected to provide an acceptable criminal records check at their own expense as a condition of employment if selected as the successful candidate.

Requirements of the position include: Licensed Electrician (309A or 442A required) eligible to work in the province of Ontario, and Fire Alarm Certified, together with a minimum of three years working in the trade. The successful candidate must have an excellent work ethic and be well organized and must also: be physically able to work in strenuous environments (e.g. heights, restricted spaces, outdoors); communicate well; have strong interpersonal skills; be effective working both individually and as a member of a team; and be committed to safe work practices.
