Reporting to the Administrative Assistant, the successful candidate will assist the full-time Financial Clerk in supporting the financial needs of approximately 150 Department of Chemistry faculty, staff and students.  The incumbent will process purchase orders, cheque requisitions, systems contracts, stock requisitions, PDR claims, billing for internal services, stockroom billings, revenue remittances, journal entries, and purchases using procurement card; reconcile petty cash; match paperwork; prepare travel and expense claims; maintain tri-council signature forms, month end statement records and accurate filing systems; assist with lab manual sales, assist the Admin Assistant with special projects, and handle financial and general enquiries. The incumbent will also assist the Industrial Research Chair with administrative duties relating to his grants, arrange meetings and travel arrangements, and provide backup to the full-time Financial Clerk and other administrative staff during absences.

Requirements of this position include: Secondary school graduation plus some relevant post-secondary education (i.e. office administration), plus a minimum of 18 months related experience in a financial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates should demonstrate: experience in purchasing; familiarity with general office procedures; advanced computer skills using Excel and Word; accurate and precise analytical skills; excellent communication and organizational skills; strong attention to detail and organizational skills; the ability to prioritize, initiative, the ability to work independently and as part of a team; problem-solving skills, and an understanding of the importance of confidentiality.  Knowledge of financial systems, ADI, iProcurement, and WebNow would be an asset.  Familiarity with the university environment, cycles, policies and procedures will also be considered an asset.

Normal Hiring Range   $19.91 - $22.24 per hour
