Reporting to the Business Manager of Student Wellness, the Marketing and Communications Officer is responsible for strategic planning and execution of marketing, health and wellness promotion, communications, and major promotional events, in keeping with the specific needs of key target audiences; ensuring that the Student Wellness brand is consistently conveyed in a diverse range of settings and platforms; delivering effective communication regarding our health and wellness programs and services, leading to the enhanced participation and engagement of students, staff, faculty, alumni and community partners. The Marketing and Communications Officer will oversee the branding and marketing strategy that organizes and promotes all activities within the department.

Specific responsibilities include supporting the development and execution of the creative direction and visual branding strategies for the department of Student Wellness, providing direction and education to student staff and volunteers, leads in the production of print materials, social media content, digital marketing and communications, website production and maintenance, and information visualization with a primary focus on student health and well-being. The incumbent is technically proficient and communicates effectively with internal clients regarding design strategy, rationale, and execution.  The incumbent engages with outside vendors to ensure adherence to project timelines and manages project budgets.

The incumbent must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong project prioritization, planning and implementation skills, demonstrated excellence in communication (electronic, verbal and written) and an understanding of marketing and branding strategies as they relate to the production of promotional and marketing materials.  As a self-starter, the incumbent maintains up to date knowledge of design and marketing trends, best practices, and related software and hardware technologies.

Requirements of the position include:

  • An Undergraduate degree in a related field along with three to five (3-5) years’ experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • A background in health communications is preferred
  • Advanced use of Adobe Creative Suites and Canva
  • Experience with use of social media management systems
  • Advanced use website management systems (ex. Drupel)
  • Knowledge of AODA compliance requirements
  • Previous management of website content and strategy, including search engine optimization, google analytics and google ads
