Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Shop, the Plumber/Steamfitter is responsible for preventive maintenance, repairs, and alterations while safely working in accordance with University policies and procedures, regulations, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.  Specific duties include:  Maintenance and alterations of steam, condensate, compressed gases, chilled water, and specialty mechanical distribution systems working from work orders, drawings, sketches, and/or oral instructions; and other associated duties as assigned.  The incumbent in this position is regularly exposed to disagreeable working conditions typically associated with the trade.  The incumbent will be expected to conduct himself/herself in a polite, tactful, diplomatic, and respectful manner at all times and remain current in their trade.  The incumbent will be expected to participate in the shop call-in list as well as take training provided or arranged by the employer. 

Requirements of the position include: Licensed Plumber/Steamfitter eligible to work in the province of Ontario, together with a minimum of three years working in the trade, preferably in an institutional environment. The successful candidate must have an excellent work ethic, be well organized, and must also be physically able to work in strenuous environments (e.g. heights, restricted spaces, outdoors); communicate well; have strong interpersonal skills; be effective working both individually and as a member of a team; and be committed to safe work practices.  If selected as the successful candidate, any applicant from off campus will be expected to provide an acceptable criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.

Work Location             Based in the Mechanical Shop and working at potentially any location on       the University’s Guelph campus
