The Chemistry Unit provides analytical support for accredited test procedures applied to a variety of testing programs as well as pesticide residue studies performed following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations, following OECD principles. This position will provide support to the Chemistry Unit quality system as well as the GLP section. In the GLP section, under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) and in liaison with the GLP team, the incumbent will: compile all aspects of the documentation requirements for GLP studies and prepare GLP client reports, including; fill in all pertinent aspects of the study into a report template reporting on discrepancies that are not in compliance with OECD principles; fill in tables of data, second-person verify results, ensure data results fall within specifications outlined in the Study Plan, perform basic statistical evaluations of the data (mean, standard deviation, % CV), provide sample calculations, data- entry tables and appendices. Additional administrative duties include: accepting GLP samples into the lab; verifying accuracy and completeness of associated paperwork; reviewing certificates, SOP’s and other documentation; copying/scanning documentation; ordering supplies; providing general administrative support to the Study Director or PI. In support of the Chemistry unit quality system, under direction from scientific staff, the incumbent will assist with a variety of aspects of the quality system, including providing CAPA support and assisting with monitoring for compliance to the quality system and large inventory of analytical standards.
Requirements of the position include: 3 year Community College diploma in Chemistry, combined with several years hands-on GLP/GMP laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Exceptional attention to detail as demonstrated by previous experience in a GLP/GMP environment, combined with proven proof-reading capabilities with numerical data; strong background in an analytical chemistry laboratory with a focus on chromatographic based testing procedures; strong understanding of quality control requirements for a laboratory dedicated to chromatographic testing; highly developed organizational and multi-tasking skills; advanced computer skills in Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat; strong understanding of scientific terminology and concepts; solid background with reporting techniques (i.e. statistical reporting, summaries) and data presentation (i.e. tables); demonstrated interpersonal skills, particularly under stressful conditions; excellent written and oral communication skills. In-depth knowledge of the standards associated with quality systems (ISO 17025, CALA or SCC and GLP); experience auditing in a scientific environment; demonstrated self-motivation, multi-tasking and organizational skills, working in a client-centered, high volume GLP/GMP environment.
