A qualified research assistant is required to assist with research projects in environmental economics. Current projects include an empirical study of the economics of environmental DNA sampling versus traditional capture sampling for freshwater fish in Canada and a project to design a study on the valuation of ecosystem services in the Great Lakes. 


  • Work with large data sets using database software to filter and organize data into a form amenable to multiple regression analysis
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with research team and external partners
  • Undertake some clerical duties as required such as recording meeting minutes, conducting doodle polls to find meeting times for research team, assisting with logistics related to planning a virtual workshop for research team and external partners.
  • Conduct statistical analyses including multiple regression analyses
  • Assist with reviewing, appraising and interpreting literature, maintaining a database of references, synthesizing findings
  • Participate in virtual and in-person meetings with research team
  • Prepare summaries and reports on progress and work outcomes.


  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, environmental sciences, environmental studies or related field with some experience or a relevant combination of education and experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working with database software, preferably Ninox, or ability and willingness to learn
  • Experience working with Stata or similar software for conducting statistical analyses
  • Working knowledge of multiple regression methods and basic statistical functions
  • Must be self-motivated with strong attention to accuracy and detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

The position is based in the Department of Economics and Finance at the University of Guelph; regular, but not frequent, in-person meetings will be held there.
