This is a Research Associate II position for a highly motivated researcher in immunology and microbiology. Reporting to the laboratory’s principal investigator, the Research Associate will be involved in projects aimed to drive a discovery and applied research in the area of poultry health and disease. The laboratory is interested in host-virus interactions, developing novel vaccines against poultry viruses and interactions of gut microbiota with the avian host.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting research experiments
  • Collection, analysis and interpretation of research data
  • Writing manuscripts for peer-review
  • Preparation and presentation of research data for scientific audience
  • Engaging, establishing and cultivating partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Preparation of scientific reports for funders and external stakeholders
  • Training new lab members for laboratory techniques
  • Overseeing the work of other junior members of the laboratory

Requirements of the position include:

  • Master’s degree (preference will be given to PhD holders) in microbiology/ immunology or related discipline
  • A minimum 5 years of relevant laboratory experience in immunology, virology and bacteriology
  • In-depth understanding of and hands-on experience with the following techniques: real-time PCR, virus culture, bacterial culture, flowcytometry, ELISA, microbiome analysis, animal handling, gene cloning and protein expression
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated ability to assign and monitors the work of junior-level research staff, evaluating
  • progress and quality of work and coordinating workflow
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment
  • Experience in engaging and establishing partnerships with stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Experience in writing research reports for external and internal stakeholders and funders

This appointment is regularly performed on- campus but will be initially fulfilled remotely (off-campus) until the University resumes its regular operations.
