Laser Training (Class 3 B, 4)

All Laser users (including Principal Investigators) must participate in the University’s Laser Safety training course prior to handling or working with class 3B and 4 Lasers.  Please ensure that all 3B and 4 Lasers or devices with Class 3B and 4 Lasers are registered with the Radiation Safety Office (EHS).

Laser users must participate in refresher training at least every 3 years.

Principal Investigators are responsible for ensuring that all Laser users under their supervision:

  • are trained in the specific procedures and/or hazards associated with their work;
  • participate in the University Laser Training and refresher training at the frequencies indicated above; and
  • are compliant with best practices and follow the ANSI Standard when operating with high powered LASERS ( Class 3 B and 4)
  • have their baseline eyes conducted in accordance with the Occupational Health & Wellness Department
  • have LASER Safety Glasses with the proper OD Rating.

Class 3B and 4 Lasers users must participate in refresher training at least every 3 years. Passing the quiz with a mark of 75% or greater will suffice as having completed the refresher course.

Laser Safety user training is provided by the Environment Health & Safety Department at the University of Guelph.
