Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS2015)

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act WHMIS2015 training is mandatory for any person working with or in proximity of hazardous materials. As a service to the University community, EHS offers WHMIS2015 to all employees and graduate students. This comprehensive WHMIS2015 Online Certification training is developed in accordance with the Hazardous Products Act and was updated to reflect the 2015 standards for incorporating the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) in Canada.

The following topics are covered under the WHMIS2015 training:

  • An overview of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS2015)
  • Labels, material safety data sheets (MSDS)/Safety data Sheets (SDS) and worker training
  • WHMIS symbols, WHMIS2015 pictograms, Signal Words, Hazard statements and their meanings
  • An overview of general chemical hazards, including flammability, reactivity and health hazards
  • Exposure limits for chemical hazards
