Laboratory Safety Awareness

This course is designed to provide a general awareness of laboratory hazards and potential lab emergencies for those individuals who may enter University laboratories through the course of their work.  The course will provide a brief overview of the following topics:

  • General laboratory safety practices
  • Laboratory engineering controls; fume hoods and biosafety cabinets
  • Personal protective equipment for the lab
  • Typical laboratory hazards focusing on chemicals and compressed gas cylinders
  • Emergency preparedness/response for the lab

Target Audience

Physical Resources employees that may enter laboratory environments periodically through the course of their work responsibilities, and their supervisors.  This course is not sufficient for lab personnel.
