Standard First Aid, CPR and AED

The WSIB approved two day course delivers Standard First Aid (based Canadian Red Cross program) and adult/child /infant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level C and Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  The use of AEDs will be reviewed and practiced with a training unit.

First aid topics covered include:

  • Primary and secondary assessment
  • Severe bleeding – wounds, lacerations
  • Serious injury recognition and Immobilization (e.g. head, neck, back, chest, abdomen)
  • Medical conditions – heart attack, stroke, diabetes, seizures, allergies
  • Practice and relevant scenarios
  • As time permits, any of the following:
    • Heat/cold related conditions
    • Burns
    • Puncture wounds
    • Poisoning

Who should attend:

University of Guelph personnel working at Research Stations and Regional campuses. If space allows, any University of Guelph personnel who require Standard First Aid and CPR for external activities (team coaches, Scouts Canada/ Girl Guides of Canada, etc) are welcome.

Course includes: Standard First Aid certificate valid for 3 years; renewal is recommended every 2 years.

Cost: This course is offered free of charge to all full-time permanent University of Guelph employees. The cost for others, including undergrads, graduate students and non- University personnel is posted within the course information.
