This discussion will encourage folks to grow in their understanding and allyship while providing equity of space to all who are present.

Workshop - Start-up Business Finance 101: Budgeting, Managing, and Financial Jargon

Join the Wood Centre during our fourth Workshop of the semester, to learn about the first steps of Start-up Business Finances presented by Erin Young! Understanding your business’ financials is important for any start-up. It can get very overwhelming, especially when it comes to all the tools required to track money. Budgets, Cash flows, and Revenue Projections, are all necessary but what do they even mean? Why do you have to do them? What do you do with that shoebox of receipts? This session will explain why, what they are, and how you do them.

Workshop - Building a Sustainable Business: Friendlier Company

Special Guest, Kayli Dale from Friendlier, will walk us through her journey of building a start-up right after graduating university (and at the beginning of a pandemic). In this one hour session, Kayli will focus on the first steps she took to build the business, the challenges she faced early on, and the specific advantages/disadvantages around building a cleantech/sustainability-focussed venture.

Join this workshop if you want to learn some public speaking techniques to help build your confidence in meetings, presentations and pitch competitions. Topics Covered:

Product Photography Workshop

Whether you have a business and want to learn the tricks and tips to taking quality pictures, or just want to learn a new skill - all guests are welcomed! Join us on Thursday, December 1st at 12pm to learn the basic composition skill of photography, including product placement and lighting. Our sesison will be lead by Laurel Jarvis, a local Guelph professional photographer.  No equipment required!  

Videography Workshop

This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the basics of videography, and is intended for those with little to no experience with DSLR cameras and editing etc. The workshop will strengthen your content-creation skills, whether you're an artist, entertainer, or entrepreneur. The hands-on workshop will give you tips for capturing video with your cell phone and more professional cameras, as well as demos of free and paid editing software packages and editing workflows.

3D Print Workshop

This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the basics of 3D printing and is intended for those with a desire to learn but little to no prior experience. Topics we’ll cover include a hands-on orientation to a an entry level machine, how to find free 3D files to print, the process of ‘slicing’ a file (turning it into something machine can work with) and loading the sliced file onto the printer via micro-SD card. We will also briefly cover the different kinds of 3D printers available, and when to use each kind. No prior knowledge required; all are welcome.

So, you want to be an Entrepreneur? Learn about the Hub Incubator that will take you from idea to launch! Does the idea of being an entrepreneur sound exciting, or overwhelming? Where do you start? What are the steps to take to follow your dream about being your own boss? In this introductory session, Erin Young, the new Manager of the Hub Incubator, will speak about the opportunities available to learn how to be an entrepreneur.
