Gone are the days of wasting money on items you'll only need once or twice! Lendr is a startup company created by University of Guelph students that promotes renting of consumer goods by making the process of renting items online a whole lot easier. How? By providing a user-friendly web/app where you can easily sift through rental products from people in your area based on your budget and location, and/or post your own items for others to rent.

Wary about the safety of your items? Worry not — All Lendr members are screened and verified by Lendr in order to ensure a quality experience. Furthermore, there are various security measures in place to protect both lenders and renters, which you can learn about here.

The old way of renting online entails scouring through various websites, calling businesses to find prices, having to go to places that may not be local, and filling out forms. Lendr eliminates all of that. Once you find a product you would like to rent, simply fill out a short request form and you’re all set. The Lendr team is working to integrate a third-party delivery feature in the near future so that the item will be delivered right to your door at a time convenient to you and picked up and brought back to its home when you’re done — no hassle!

Lendr exists for four main reasons:

  1. Renting helps you save money as opposed to buying.
  2. Renting reduces clutter within your home.
  3. Renting is environmentally friendly due to the sharing and re-using aspect of renting goods.
  4. Lending allows you to earn a recurring passive income on your household items!

Co-Founders and University of Guelph students Ryan Frampton and Drew Mortensen met at UoG, and started Lendr after having been housemates and close friends for two years. Before Lendr, they simultaneously launched their own separate businesses — Frampz Marketing and Navy Street Design — in order to gain firsthand knowledge about growing, running, and maintaining a business. Both businesses have achieved considerable success, and have been their main sources of income for the past 12 months.

The concept of Lendr stemmed from the exorbitant prices of textbooks. They figured that there must be a more cost-effective way to obtain textbooks that will only be used for one semester rather than throwing away hundreds of dollars to buy them new. That’s where the idea of renting came in, and through trial and error, many different variations, and with the added expertise of bringing on five other University of Guelph students, they ended up with a final product — Lendr.

Executive Team

Ryan Frampton - Chief Executive Officer

Ryan is an International Development student at the University of Guelph with certificates in Business and Communications. He also runs Frampz Marketing, a social media marketing service for real estate professionals.

Drew Mortensen - Chief Customer Officer

Drew is a Political Science student at the University of Guelph with certificates in Business and Communications. He also runs Navy Street Design, a web design and branding firm for small businesses.

Austin Armstrong - Chief Financial Officer

Austin is a Management Economics and Finance student at the University of Guelph. He is also the Vice President of Internal Affairs at The University of Guelph’s College of Business & Economics Students’ Association

Engineering Team

Lendr's software engineering team is comprised of the top talent at the UoG, led by Project Manager Jordan Malfara who handles the backend development and plays a key role in the hiring process. 

Jordan Malfara - Project Manager/Software Engineer

Jordan is a Software Engineering student with experience using C, Python, Perl, Assembly, and Java (including Android development). He was previously employed with CIBC.

Kamran Fekri - Software Engineer

Kamran leads the Android development division and has played a huge role in the team by contributing breakthrough insights on business aspects of the startup.

Muhammad Jaffar - Software Engineer

A recent addition to the team, Muhammad is a highly motivated student and a self learner who thrives to become a competitive member of the ever evolving tech community. He has experience in iOS and web development.

Santiago Gutierrez Sors - Software Engineer

Another recent addition to the team, Santiago is a UoG student handling the iOS and web development aspects.

As of September 2017, Lendr has proudly been part of the CBaSE Hub Incubator program, which offers funding, dedicated office space, and access to experienced entrepreneurs. The Hub focuses on helping startups develop a strong business model that can be rigorously tested and intelligently scaled.

Lendr plans to develop new innovations within the rental industry in the future, but for now it is mainly concerned with providing you safety, simplicity and value.
