Johnson Entrepreneurship Scholarship Recipient – Bree Johnson
The John F. Wood Centre would like to congratulate Bree Johnson as the 2021 recipient of the Johnson Entrepreneurship Scholarship. The $10,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student registered in a major offered by the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics and have completed a minimum of 15 credits.
This scholarship was established by Chris Johnson, a Bachelor of Commerce graduate from 1997. Chris is the founder and CEO of Crown Capital Partners. He discovered his inner entrepreneur after graduating from U of G and wants to encourage business students to consider entrepreneurship as a potential career choice through the help of this scholarship.
Bree developed her spirit of entrepreneurship from her parents, who own a successful fishing company and fish farm with equipment rentals and fish sales. Witnessing her parent’s as innovators and entrepreneurs piqued Bree’s interest and drive to start her first company, “Just B Household Assistant’ Although that company is no longer operational, Bree has not let it stop her from trying a new opportunity.
In April 2021, Bree launched ‘Peaks and Willows’ a company that sells handcrafted body products such as scrubs and lotions. Bree mentioned that her education at the University of Guelph has been instrumental in her success. As a student majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Bree has been able to take a variety of courses in marketing, accounting and customer discovery. In a 3rd year course, Bree learned how to develop income statement and cash flow statements and most importantly, learn how to analyze a company’s success. Courses in marketing have helped Bree develop her brand and determine the company’s target market.
Bree aspires to own and operate a bridal boutique in the future and we cannot wait to see this idea come to life. We know that with your educational background and passion, you will do incredible things in the world of entrepreneurship!
