HeForShe is a solidarity campaign for the advancement of gender equality, initiated by UN. Its goal is to achieve equality by encouraging all genders to partake as agents of change and take action against negative stereotypes and behaviours. Grounded in the idea that gender inequality is an issue that affects all people—socially, economically and politically—it seeks to actively involve men and boys in a movement that was originally conceived as "a struggle for women by women".Learn more about the HeForShe initiative

Let's stand up for gender equality
HeForShe at U of G is an event that celebrates the strength and resilience of our community. Each year, we are honoured to have a guest on campus to present a keynote address. Canada’s 26th Governor General, best-selling author and journalist, Adrienne Clarkson, will headline this year's event, which takes place virtually on March 10th.
Clarkson will discuss her various life experiences, education and career and how resilience is about developing the mental, spiritual and emotional muscles to deal with life’s challenges.
“Resilience is all about having the ability to form and re-form your own particular sets of talents and abilities to meet new challenges,” said Clarkson. “And meeting new challenges throughout your life is what resilience is all about.”
The event will also include the presentation of HeForShe-inspired awards and scholarships, including:
- Resilience Scholarships: Two scholarships ($5,000) are awarded to a female business and engineering student. These scholarships recognize the strength and resilience of applicants
- HeForShe Ally Scholarship: One scholarship ($2,500) is awarded to a student on campus who has shown, through their actions and involvement, that they are an ally in the movement toward gender equality
- HeForShe Impact Award: This award recognizes a Guelph-Wellington business/organization that actively promotes and improves gender equality through initiatives within their organization and/or the community.
The annual event is co-hosted by the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, Gryphon Football, and the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
