The College of Business and Economics is making a number of headlines today ranging from the Olympic Games to tomorrow's National Food Security Forum.

U of G business alumnus and former Gryphon track star Cody Sorensen will be competing in the four-man bobsled event in Sochi this weekend. Sorensen's father is a former Olympian who competed for Canada in the 1972 Summer Games in Munich. The City of Guelph and University of Guelph released an update to their joint food waste study on Friday. Professor Mike von Massow from the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management is one of the lead researchers in this project. Read "City hungry to trim our food waste" [2]

According to Associate Dean and Professor Sylvain Charlebois, food prices could rise 20 per cent by this fall due to an ongoing severe drought in California. Charlebois was recently interviewed by CBC News on the possible price changes and what consumers can expect in the grocery store. This week's National Food Security Forum is covered in the Guelph Mercury. The Forum will take place February 19-20 at the Delta Hotel and Conference Centre in Guelph and will cover a variety of topics including food security and waste, competitiveness in food manufacturing, global opportunities for the Canadian food industry, research, development and innovation for food security, health, food security, and food system challenges and changes.
