Last week, four Lang undergraduate students from the real estate and housing program travelled to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in the Retail Real Estate Case Competition, an international invitation-only case competition.
Congratulations goes out to the Lang team, who placed third overall at the competition. The team consisted of Kevin Kovachis, Breanna Rozon, Samantha Marshall and Julian Merigliano. Along with a podium finish, the team collected $5,000 in prize money.
Hosted jointly by the International Council of Shopping Centres and the Center for Real Estate and Finance, the Retail Real Estate Case Competition is an annual competition for undergraduate teams from top university real estate programs across the world. The competition provides students an opportunity to apply their classroom learning and showcase their talents to industry leaders.
Business students from the University of Guelph have competed in the competition since its inaugural event in 2016, where they placed first overall.
Among the twelve teams participating in this year’s competition, the U of G’s Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics was the only Canadian school to compete. Competing schools included:

- Florida State University
- Indiana University
- New York University
- Ohio State University
- University of Colorado
- University of Connecticut
- University of Guelph
- University of Pennsylvania
- University of Queensland
- University of Texas at Austin
- University of Wisconsin, Madison
Cornell University placed first, with second place going to the University of Queensland. Congratulations to all students who competed.
The competition took place May 19 - 20 during RECon [1], the world’s largest retail real estate convention.
