The Net Impact (Graduate) Chapter at the University of Guelph recently achieved Gold standing, a designation that is awarded to Net Impact’s top chapters across the world. Net Impact [1], which has chapters worldwide, aims to mobilize next-generation leaders to use their skills and careers to make a positive impact on the world.
The Gold status recognizes the most outstanding chapters in the Net Impact community, which includes more than 400 chapters across 45 countries. Chapters with Gold status are recognized for going above and beyond in their activities to help Net Impact achieve their mission to build a more just and sustainable world. Gold status is given to chapters based on a set of requirements including activities, programming, membership and community contributions.
The Net Impact University of Guelph - Graduate chapter launched in 2018 and is led by Lang graduate students Afra Mehwish (MA Management) and Zahra Bhojani (PhD Management). After launching, the chapter had a busy year hosting several events that helped lead local discussions on building a more sustainable world.
In March 2019, they hosted Community Sustainability: Pathways to Lasting Solutions, a panel event that featured local experts for a discussion on sustainability solutions. In the same month, they also launched their inaugural Food Solutions Challenge, which invited U of G students to compete for cash prizes by developing a climate-friendly cold storage solution in sub-Saharan Africa.
To kick off the new academic year, the chapter is hosting Beyond Business As Usual Academic Conference [2] in November, an academic conference focused on graduate research in the sustainability realm. The conference is an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to learn, network and collaborate.
The Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics congratulates all members of the local chapter on this accomplishment, including Chapter Presidents Afra Mehwish and Zahra Bhojani, and Faculty Advisor Elizabeth Kurucz.
Net Impact University of Guelph (Graduate) Chapter have extended their deadline to submit an abstract for their upcoming academic conference, now due by October 15th. Details for submitting an abstract – or to learn more about attending the conference – can be found online [2].
