Mobilizing the world’s tourism knowledge is the focus of a new SSHRC grant for two Lang faculty. Dr. Statia Elliot (Director, School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management) and retired faculty Dr. Marion Joppe have been awarded funding as part of SSHRC’s Research Data Management Capacity Building Initiative.

The funding will support the upcoming Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) International Conference, in Victoria, BC where scholars, industry experts, and government will converge to share insights into the tourism sector's post-pandemic recovery.

The funding will primarily be used to support live streaming and recording of keynote speeches; taping of best paper presentations; a digital repository; the subsidization of graduate student conference registration fees; and a qualitative research workshop. 

The conference will serve as a hub of tourism knowledge mobilization, uniting scholars and academics, highlighting prominent studies and leading data methods while also ensuring the representation and advancement of diverse voices and research.

The SSHRC grant will assist in facilitating researcher outreach in an effort to include those in geographically remote areas, Indigenous researchers, and emerging researchers in developing countries.

To help the Canadian social sciences and humanities research community better understand data management and incorporate data management considerations into research practices, SSHRC’s Research Data Management Capacity Building Initiative offers Connection Grants to support the research community’s development, adoption and dissemination of research data management standards, practices, tools and skills appropriate to their field.
