[Katelyn Cortina with lower third] Katelyn Cortina: That's a big part of leadership to me and something that I've learned here at Lang. [bright music] [Text on screen: Responsible and collaborative business leaders are the future] [Drone shot starting at Gordon S. Lang School of Business sign and going into Lang Plaza] Dr. Lysa Porth: The Lang School of Business is focused on being recognized [Dr. Lysa Porth with lower third] Dr. Lysa Porth: locally and globally for our commitment to developing future leaders. [Students in a classroom sitting at tables of 4-5 with someone walking around them teaching] Dr. Lysa Porth: We have a foundational belief that business can [Dr. Lysa reappears] Dr. Lysa Porth: and should be a force for good in the world. [Students in a classroom, one writing on a whiteboard others talking to each other] [Stu Lang with lower third] Stu Lang: Business School is rather young from the standpoint of other Business Schools. [Professor at the front of a classroom, students listening then moves to three students working together, one on a computer then moves to one person at a whiteboard and others around them] Stu Lang: So, we had the freedom and the flexibility. The school was willing to take on new challenges [Stu reappears] Stu Lang: and try to make a unique and distinctive Business School. [Different groups of students talking around tables] Stu Lang: The one missing piece we thought was the ethical side of business. [Stu reappears] Stu Lang: Everyone talks about what business is, but no one talks about why, why do you take business? Why do you do business? [Text on screen: The AACSB accreditation will amplify Lang’s bold mission.] [Dr. Ruben Burga with lower third] Dr. Ruben Burga: It's a valuation of who we are, when we get to that accreditation stage, then it is signaling to our students, [Students in a classroom sitting at tables while the professor is walking around talking to them then moves to students working around a whiteboard] Dr. Ruben Burga: and to other faculty and other institutions that in fact, we have reached that high standard. [Joan Fisk with lower third] Joan Fisk: As we go forward, this is a launch pad for us. The accreditation process is only the beginning. [Students each on their laptop around a table then shows students working at tables organizing cards then moves to a group of students standing and talking] Dr. Lysa Porth: It reinforces our need to co-create knowledge, innovate collaboratively and across disciplines and [Dr. Lysa Porth] Dr. Lysa Porth: advanced solutions that are relevant, [Students in a classroom at individual chairs sitting and listening then moves to students at the front of the classroom presenting] Dr. Lysa Porth: effective and sustainable. Stu Lang: I think it's their flexibility, [Stu Lang] Stu Lang: their willingness to do things different. They're not just trying to follow the path of some of the other Business Schools. They want to create a uniqueness that would attract students that are concerned about changing the world in some way. [Two students sitting together on a laptop] Katelyn: As a student, you're always encouraged to be taking on new projects leading a team, trying new things. [Katelyn Cortina] Katelyn Cortina: I feel like I can make an impact and lead with purpose there. [Students in a classroom around a table talking with a board with sticky notes beside them] Dr. Lysa Porth: We will strive for research excellence and build a world-class graduate school. And the university of Guelph has such a great reputation and a great establishment and great respect throughout [Susan Frasson] Susan Frasson: Canada and the world, that they were easily able to make those things. [Students working with sticky notes on a board] Joan Fisk: Business leaders have to be flexible. They have to be innovative. [Joan Fisk] Joan Fisk: They have to be curious. They have to want to make something different happen but they certainly will get it at Guelph. They'll get that passion. It's in the walls. You can't help having it here. [Drone overview of Macdonald Hall] Dr. Lysa Porth: The future of Lang is bright [Dr. Lysa Porth] Dr. Lysa Porth: and we have incredible momentum. [Students shaking hands with others in a classroom] Dr. Lysa Porth: We're surrounded by exceptional students, faculty, staff, [Students talking to one another then moves to students working with sticky notes on a board] Dr. Lysa Porth: alumni, donors and other community stakeholders that are so aligned to our mission. [Dr. Lysa Porth] Dr. Lysa Porth: Together we will show the world what it means for business to be a force for good. [Two people at a table talking] Katelyn Cortina: I feel like I'm going to be very open to take on new opportunities, [Katelyn Cortina] Katelyn Cortina: learn more about what it is to be in business and what I can take on in my role just because here at Lang, everybody here is so eager and encourages you to be your best. And I feel like that spirit and that energy, I'll definitely carry with me for years to come. [Lang logo]
