(0:00 - 0:10) my name is kathleen rodenberg and i received the transformational learning fund from lang for my management 1000 course Text on screen: Receiving the Transformational Learning Fund was critical to Dr. Rodenburg's ability to deliver an impactful course. (0:16 - 0:31) i applied for the transformational learning fund which was incredibly beneficial to help me conduct some research with my students to better understand their attitudes towards the environment and also their ethical orientation. (0:32 - 1:11) with this research i'm in a great position to be able to look at high impact teaching practices that could help inform my curriculum for future years to be even more impactful for our students. it's undergraduate students that teach the course and we use some of these funds for improv business to help them with team building and we also used it to help design the instructional skills workshop seminars that could be used to help train the TA's so that they could be more effective as management 1000 seminar leaders. (1:12 - 1:45) without this funding i think it would have been challenging for me to understand or do the analysis of current students state one of the things that's incredibly important when you're conducting research in your classroom is to ensure that you're at arm's length and i would not been able to do that if i didn't have the assistance of an undergraduate research assistant that could gather the data and it remained separate from the actual course and students didn't feel that they were being graded accordingly. (1:46 - 1:51) Text on screen: Part of funding helped hire an external agency to develop active learning exercises for her class. (1:52 - 3:34 ) so the transformational learning fund gives you the opportunity to you know maybe have a broader reach in using resources to help inform your curriculum and and so if you don't have that then you're left to yourself and certainly we have lots of resources here but but the whole idea to be innovative in your own teaching allowing you to go to one of the organizations that we talk to is ripen to help develop a rubric in order to do that you do need some funds to assist with that if you're thinking of you know working with you know developing your students in terms of teamwork and things like that certainly you could you know look up in a manual and say okay this is a great way for me to expedite this for these students but oftentimes there's some amazing people in the field that are totally experts in experiential learning that can bring so much uh to the classroom so it really gives you an opportunity to test new things in the classroom it's a great first step towards funding particularly if you're a new faculty um i strongly encourage you to do this you'll find something that you can do you know in a one-time project certainly ask colleagues who have received this funding before including myself um to give you some tips i'm happy to share you know my application uh and my budgeting and everything but but of all the the funds that i've applied for um this one was was easy because i was talking to people that actually spoke my language.
