U of G Participating in Commuter Challenge

Students, staff and faculty at U of G are encouraged to get active and consider using alternative ways to get to school and work as part of this year’s Commuter Challenge, a nationwide, week-long event that runs during National Environment Week June 5 to 11.

“The entire week is a way to break out of our reliance on the single-occupancy vehicle and try out different, more sustainable methods of transportation,” says Gillian Maurice, U of G’s sustainability co-ordinator. University participants register online and pledge to try to bike, walk, bus, carpool or telework during the week, and track the number of kilometres they travel, or avoid travelling.

Participants also have a chance to win prizes, including a new bicycle, free monthly passes to Guelph Transit, or raffle tickets for the Smart Changes lottery that takes place this summer.
