Gisele: My research is all about food microbiology. Now our relationship with food is such a vital component of our health and microbes play a big role in how to diversify our food and also how they interact with our gut microbiota.

Gisele: The most exciting aspects of my work are first of all the ideas working with
students and coming up with fresh new ideas, and second of all is getting actual results especially when they're very unexpected, and third of all is actually solving 
problems and looking to see how they're actually being applied.

I've always been passionate about biology and when I discovered that microbes are actually responsible for making some of the food that we eat, [music fades in] well that was it, that caught my interest.
