We look at factors that affect colony survival. Because in the past seven years, [University of Guelph logo and text fade out] honey bees have been declining at an alarming rate. And we want to know what factors are affecting the health and behaviour of honey bees and above all we want to find solutions to those problems. So we conduct research to ameliorate honey bee health as well. And this is important because honey bees are the most important pollinator of crops. 0:46 - 1:05 [Screen flashes to video of Prof. Ernesto Guzman speaking in the library] Ernesto: Most of the food produced in Western societies requires some degree of honey bee pollination. Roughly about one-quarter of the food we eat in Western societies is due to the [Music fades in] pollinating effects of honey bees. 1:06 - 1:10 [Screen fades in to show OAC logo on a white background, red website link] Text: www.uoguelph.ca/oac [Screen fades to black]
