Meet Prof. Paul Sibley Descriptive Transcript Summary: Prof. Paul Sibley briefly describes his research in the School of Environmental Science at the University of Guelph, and what he enjoys about working with graduate students. 0:00 - 0:04 [Music plays; White screen fades in to show University of Guelph logo; red and black text appears] Text: :60 Second Snapshots Meet the Profs of the Ontario Agricultural College 0:05 - 0:47 [Screen changes to show video of Prof. Paul Sibley speaking in front of glass windows; University of Guelph logo and white text on a black box fade in at bottom] Text: Prof. Paul Sibley School of Environmental Sciences Paul: The research that I'm doing is focused on understanding [Music fades out] the anthrogenic and natural disturbance impacts on both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. [University of Guelph logo and text fade out] I'm particularly interested in understanding the mechanisms that drive the patterns that we see in response to a disturbance and understanding how these might be applied in a management context. So I'm really, really driven by the connection between understanding fundamental processes in those responses and how we can take that information and apply it in a way that allows us to either regulate or manage in some way to mitigate those responses. 0:48 - 1:06 [Screen changes to short video clips of Prof. Paul Sibley working at a lake with students, students working with tools in the lake] Paul: I actually love being out in the field, collecting the samples and working on the projects there, but it's also a very fascinating component to interact with the students and that's one of the things that really drives my interest is kind of on the mentoring side. We're teaching them about the tools, techniques and the trade of doing science and then to 1:07 - 1:14 [Screen changes to video of Prof. Paul Sibley speaking in front of glass windows] Paul: get those students to think about how they can solve some of the problems that we're facing in the world today. So it's that combination of teaching [Music fades in] and research that I really, really enjoy. 1:15 - 1:20 [Screen fades in to show OAC logo on a white background, red website link] Text: www.uoguelph.ca/oac [Screen fades to black]
