The types of questions that we look at range from basic biology, to understand more about these insects, through to developing pest management programs against them. And the aim is to protect Ontario's agriculture as well as to minimize the environmental impact of pest management practices in agriculture. 0:33 - 1:09 [Screen flashes to video of Prof. Rebecca Hallet speaking in front of a glass door] Rebecca: For the past 15 years we've been working on a little insect called the swede midge, which is causing massive problems in Ontario and Quebec's canola industry and is spreading across Canada. We have looked in the past at various aspects of it's life history and biology, and now we're at the point of developing a decision-making tool for growers using pheromone based trap captures, to time insecticide applications, which will help to protect the canola crop and also minimize the environmental impact of pest management [Music fades in] in canola. 1:10 - 1:15 [Screen fades in to show OAC logo on a white background, red website link] Text: www.uoguelph.ca/oac [Screen fades to black]
