Improving Animal and Human Health Outcomes Through Science
The thesis-based Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in the Department of Clinical Studies offers a unique, research-intensive opportunity to advance both animal and human health. Embedded within Ontario’s only veterinary college, the program provides unparalleled access to naturally occurring veterinary clinical disorders, a full spectrum of veterinary care, and community-based practice. Its cross-disciplinary approach fosters innovation in clinical and comparative medical research, giving students a rich and hands-on educational experience across a wide range of species and specialties.

Program Start: Fall, Winter or Summer semester (Rolling)

Duration: Two years (six semesters)
Structure
The M.Sc. in Clinical Studies involves a minimum of six semesters of full-time study, including a minimum of three 0.50 credit graduate level courses. Candidates are required to carry out an independent research study and produce a thesis. Course selection is made by the student in consultation with the advisory committee, tailored to the student’s research interest and approved by the departmental Graduate Studies and Research Committee.
How to Secure a Faculty Advisor
Students in the M.Sc. in Clinical Studies complete their program under the guidance of a faculty advisor, who must be confirmed before applying through OUAC. Only applications with a confirmed advisor from the Department of Clinical Studies will be considered. Access the faculty list to become familiar with their fields of study and for their contact information.
When contacting faculty members, applicants are advised to include a current CV (resume), transcript, and a Statement of Interest (a one-page letter outlining academic interests and career goals that motivate the pursuit of graduate studies). Early contact is recommended, as developing an initial expression of interest into a defined plan of study may take time.
Applicants should discuss the following items with prospective advisors: the nature of the project, in-person expectations, and elective courses.
Admission Requirements
Letters of reference from two individuals who can adequately evaluate the academic and research capabilities of the applicant must accompany all applications.
Applications must also include a short statement of the applicant's area of interest and career goals to assist in the selection of faculty advisors.
Funding
A minimum stipend threshold must be met. Please discuss stipends with your potential advisor.
