I'm here to talk to you to you today about bike thefts on campus. Within the last year (2015) we've investigated 47 incidents of bike theft on campus, I'd like to talk to you about how we recommend that you lock up your bike. 0:33 [Shows close up of a cable lock being cut with garden shears] Wagler: We see a lot of cable locks on campus and unfortunately those don't deter thieves very well, they are easy to cut with household items like bolt cutters or garden shears. What we would recommend is we would recommend a U lock. 0:40 [Shows bicycle with a U lock attached to a bike rack] as you can see on this bike here 0:43 [Returns back to view of Wagler in from of bicycle] Wagler: They are harder to cut and most thieves won't be carrying a tool that will be able to penetrate that lock 0:50 Wagler: If you see anything suspicious on campus please don't hesitate to call our office at 519-840-5000...thank you
