Grad Student Wins Top Prizes at National Thesis Contest

Shanthanu KrishnakumarA University of Guelph graduate student took home both top prizes from Canada’s Three-Minute Thesis competition. Shanthanu Krishnakumar won first place and the People’s Choice Award — the first contestant to win both honours. The competition, now in its fifth year, requires students to explain their work and its relevance within three minutes.

Krishnakumar, a plant agriculture master’s student, discussed lengthening the shelf life of nectarines using hexanal, a natural plant-derived compound. The competition is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies.
