About
Dalal Daoud (PhD, Queen’s University) is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Political Science. Prior to joining the Department, Dr. Daoud was a Provost's Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Waterloo, and a visiting scholar with the AbuSulayman Center for Global Islamic Studies at George Mason University.
Her research focuses on the intersection of political Islam and ethnic politics in Sudan and Turkey. Specifically, Dr. Daoud examines ruling Islamists’ approaches to minorities while analyzing the roles of elite strategic calculations, institutions, and ideational commitments.
Dr. Daoud’s broader research interests include ethnic and racial politics, Islamist politics, as well as the politics of the Middle East and North Africa. Her research has been awarded several external awards, including the Social Science and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Fellowship.
