A comparativist by training, Díez teaches and does research in the areas of Latin American politics, judicial politics, public opinion, and sexual and reproductive rights.
His current research program investigates the politics of sex work in five cities: Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Medellín and Rio de Janeiro.
He has been a visiting professor at the University of California-San Diego, Science po-Paris, the El Colegio de México, the Universidad Diego Portales (Chile) and the Universidad de Costa Rica.
Díez held the Peggy Rockefeller Visiting Scholarship at Harvard University.
A devout Leafs fan, some of his hobbies include playing hockey, scuba-diving, downhill skiing, opera, wine-tasting, cooking, doing drag, boating and spending time at his cottage in the Almaguin Highlands.
