Research Title: Policing by Algorithm: Race, Neighbourhood Income, and Community Understandings of AI-Driven Policing
My research examines how residents from different racial and neighbourhood income contexts understand and interpret the use of artificial intelligence in policing. While AI policing tools are often presented as neutral and objective, this study explores how perceptions of fairness, bias, safety, and legitimacy are shaped through lived experiences with policing, technology, and inequality. Using qualitative interviews, the research aims to better understand how race and class influence community responses to emerging algorithmic policing technologies.
