About

I obtained my PhD in Development Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Prior to joining the University of Guelph, I taught at York University, Toronto, Canada.

Current areas of research include: Young people's pathways into farming in Canada, China, India and Indonesia; and relative contributions of daughters and sons to their elderly parents' well-being. Another emerging area of research is related to engaging men in preventing sexual violence in particular on university campuses.

Ongoing Funded Projects

Becoming a young farmer is a four year (2015-20) research project examining young people's pathways into farming in Canada, China, India and Indonesia. The research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Canada Insight grant.

Relative contributions of adult daughters and sons to elderly parents' care in India is a two year (2017-19) research project that analyses intergenerational patterns of support for elderly parents in daughter-only families in India. The research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Canada Insight Development grant. The research team consists of: Sharada Srinivasan (PI); Arjun S. Bedi International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University; Aswini Nanda, Centre for Research on Rural and Industrial Development; S.Irudaya Rajan, Centre for Development Studies.
