Thesis Research
My thesis critically examines how Canadian mainstream newspapers (The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, and Vancouver Sun) have represented Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S+) following the release of the 2019 National Inquiry’s Final Report.
Through qualitative content analysis of 260 articles, I explore how language and victim portrayals align with or diverge from the National Inquiry's Calls for Justice directed at media. The goal is to better understand the role of journalism in either challenging or perpetuating systemic inequalities and colonial narratives in Canada
