Why Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences?

"Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.”
~ Hippocrates

From early civilization to the present day, we have always had an evolving relationship with food; how it optimizes biological function, the role of food in disease prevention and intervention, how we process and store foods and much more. As an exciting and evolving program, the Honours B.Sc. major in Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences will explore how we can use nutrients, minerals and food’s chemical properties to develop innovative products that will benefit humans, animals and the environment.

Students in the Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences NANS program may also be interested in studying Food Science, Applied Human Nutrition, or other majors.

Megan Racey
I didn't originally choose the NANS program. I started in Biological Sciences and then changed to Bio-medical Sciences thinking it would be a great major to prepare me for medical school. During 2nd year, I took NUTR*3210, Fundamentals of Nutrition, with Dr. Kirkland, where I fell in love with nutrition and how applicable it is to every day life. I found this course particularly interesting, and after looking at Food Science and Nutrition programs at Guelph, I decided the NANS program was the best fit for me.
