As part of the PSA Consitution & Bylaw review 2020 process, we want all members to have time to review, digest, and give feedback on the proposed Constitution and Bylaws. This process begins with our  Drop-in “Coffee and Constitution” event on February 13 at the 74 Lounge at the Brass Taps.  Come and meet the members of the Bylaw Review Committee and bring your questions regarding the proposed changes. Once we have incorporated any changes resulting from that feedback, the PSA will hold a General Meeting later in 2020 to formally debate and vote on the proposed Constitution and Bylaws.

The Professional Staff Association is preparing for negotiations to renew our Compact with the University, which expires April 30th, 2020. To prepare for negotiations, the PSA will be launching a negotiation survey to gather member input in January 2020 and conducting member negotiation focus groups in March 2020.

The more members we have, the better we can negotiate collectively. Only dues paying members of the PSA have Compact ratification voting privileges.  
Membership is only $10 per month, tax deductible and will show up as a deduction for your regular pay. Membership is open to all professional and managerial staff regardless of status; regular full time, temporary full time (aka contract) and part time.

PSA Member Workshop: Managing Workplace Conflict

A lunch hour presentation facilitated by Heather MacDougall of Nelson, Watson LLP on identifying early signs of conflict and implementing best practices to manage conflict in the workplace.

Recognizing and identifying problems early goes a long way to avoiding potential future issues that can be costly emotionally and financially.  Here’s what you will learn in this dynamic workshop:
•    recognizing early warning signs of potential conflict
•    establishing and communicating appropriate workplace and social boundaries
•    review and discussion of hypothetical scenarios illustrating real life situations and application of key strategies

The PSA is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for this year's Future Leader Scholarship, a new scholarship developed by the PSA. Please see below for more details and how to apply.

Professional Staff Association Future Leader Scholarship

This $1,500.00 scholarship is provided to students whose leadership involvement makes a positive impact at the University of Guelph and/or the broader community. Apply by email to by November 25th 2019, with a personal statement (max 500 words) outlining the time commitment, impact, and types of activities undertaken as well as an indication of how these activities were a valuable and rewarding leadership experience. Applicants must also submit the name of their immediate family member for verification that they are part of the Professional/Managerial Group of the University, and/or retired Professional/Managerial Group of the University of Guelph. Selection will be based on the student’s demonstrated involvement in leadership activities on campus or off campus that result in positive community impact. The selection committee will consider how the student’s participation, initiative and efforts positively impacts the University of Guelph community and/or their broader community. In the event of a tie, the student with the highest cumulative average will be awarded. This award may not be held more than once.
Eligibility: Full-time students registered in any program who demonstrate involvement in leadership opportunities that result in positive community impact, and who are from the immediate family of full-time, part-time, contractual or retired members of the Professional/Managerial Group at the University of Guelph. Preference will be given to a student that has not received the Professional Staff Association Scholarship in the same year. Preference will also be given to students of current or retired PSA members.


The PSA Executive would like to thank all P&M staff who participated in the consent process. Please see the link below for the official news release on the results. The University of Guelph Professional Pension Plan had a high degree of member participation and the lowest rate of 'non-consent votes'.  While we are almost two years away from accruing service under the UPP, this is a key milestone that we should all celebrate. We are well on our way to a sustainable pension plan that will benefit tens of thousands of University employees in Ontario.
