Dropping Courses

All course drops from a student's program for a particular semester are to be completed by the end of the fortieth class day. The dropping of a course after the fortieth class day is allowed only in exceptional circumstances and requires the approval of the program counsellor of the program in which the student is registered. Courses dropped with approval after the fortieth class day will remain on the student's record with the notation WNP (Withdraw No Penalty). Instructor notification may also be required (see below).

Instructor Notification

A signature is required to drop a course if it is specified by the instructor on the course outline. Instructors will bring this to the attentin of the class during the academic orientation period. The instructor notification procedure may apply to limited enrolment courses and regular courses. Also see the information on Instructor Notificiation Courses in this section.

Limited Enrolment Courses

Limited enrolment courses may be dropped during the add period following registration upon notification of the instructor or the department's delegate for that course. From the end of the add period to the fortieth class day instructor notification may be required. Also see the information on Limited Enrolment Courses in this section.

Regular Courses

Regular courses may be dropped from the start of the add period to the fortieth class day without approval.

Deadline Dates

In all cases, if course changes are made, the "Undergraduate Course Request" form with appropriate approvals must be returned within the first forty class days. Refer to Section VI--Schedule of Fees for the refund schedule.

The specific deadline date for dropping courses (i.e., the fortieth class day) is noted in Section III--Schedule of Dates.

Refunds

Refer to Section VI--Schedule of Fees for refund schedule. Normally, changes to the effective date of dropped courses are only allowed for documented medical or compassionate reasons and require the approval of the program counsellor.
