Appeals of Decisions

Circumstances may arise in a graduate student's program where requests for changes are considered by the Admissions and Progress Committee of the Board of Graduate Studies. Examples are requests for extended leaves of absence, requests for multiple time limit extensions, requests for the removal of course records. In the event of a negative decision, the graduate student may, within 14 days of notification of the decision, request re-evaluation by the Admissions and Progress Committee. Such a request should be accompanied by any information not previously available to the committee. If the negative decision is maintained, the student may, within 90 days of notification of the decision, appeal to the Senate Committee on Student Petitions. The decision of the Senate Committee on Student Petitions is final.
   In the event of a decision by the Admissions and Progress Committee that the student be required to withdraw, the graduate student may, within 90 days of receiving notification of the decision, appeal to the Senate Committee on Student Petitions. Details concerning appeals may be obtained from the secretary of Senate. The decision of the Senate Committee on Student Petitions is final.
