Semesters 7 and 8

**Seven Chemistry or Biochemistry courses.
*Three electives.

*Selection of electives is subject to the following rules:

  1. A total of 4 courses in the program must be in the Arts and Social Sciences.
  2. One elective must be a physics course from 76-204, 76-226, 76-244, 76-246.
  3. Students who lack a background in computer science must select one of their electives from 27-120, 27-150, 27-160 to be taken by the end of their second year.
  4. Approval of the chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry must be obtained for the election of courses not specifically recommended.

**Seven 300/400 level courses must be chosen from 19-336, 19-387, 19-430 , 19-440, 19-452, 19-454, 19-455, 19-462, 19-463, 19-472, 19-473, 19-488, 19-490, 19-491. These must include at least 1 from 19-430, 19-440; and at least 1 from 19-387, 19-488; and at least 1 from 19-462, 19-463; and at least 1 from 19-472, 19-473.

Major

Note: The total course requirements are the same as for the Honours Physical Science program. Please note that the first year Physics requirements must be met by 76-100 and 76-101.

A major in Chemistry consists of 17 Chemistry courses. The first 6 semesters are the same as for the Specialized Honours Chemistry program except for the Mathematics elective in semester 4, which is a free elective for the major program. In semesters 7 and 8, major students must select two 400 level chemistry courses, leaving 8 free electives in those semesters. An additional two 400 level science courses must be taken to meet the requirements of the B.Sc. Honours Physical Science program.

Minor

A minor in Chemistry consists of 10 Chemistry courses and must include 19-104, 19-105, 19-240 or 19-248, 19-282 or 19-288, 19-230 or 19-270, and 5 additional Chemistry courses.
