The School of Literatures and Performance Studies in English offers courses, especially at the 200 and 300 levels, suitable for non-specialized students as well as for those in English programs. Any student in English, or majoring in another field, who is in doubt about being well prepared for a particular course at any level should consult with either the instructor or an advisor in the department. Students should note that certain courses in Drama (35-) and in Literature in Translation (24-, 47-, 55-, 88-) may be counted towards a degree in English. Honours students interested in a more concentrated program or contemplating graduate work in English are strongly advised to:

• attain a good reading knowledge of another language, such as French
• take 37-338 (Studies in the History of Literary Production), 37-369. (History of Literary Criticism), 37-469 (Contemporary Literary Theory)
• take at least [2.00] credits in English courses at the 400 level

The M.A. program in English at Guelph gives preference to qualified applicants with a broad experience in literary and cultural studies and related disciplines.
