School of Literatures and Performance Studies in English, College of Arts

The School of Literatures and Performance Studies in English offers courses, especially at the 200 and 300 levels, suitable for non-specialized students as well as for those in English programs. Any student in English, or majoring in another field, who is in doubt about being well prepared for a particular course at any level should consult with either the instructor or an advisor in the department. Students should note that certain courses in Drama (35-) and in Literature in Translation (24-, 47-, 55-, 88-) may be counted towards a degree in English. Consult the School of Literatures and Performance Studies in English for details.

General Program Area of Concentration

A minimum of [6.00] English credits is required, including:

  1. [1.50] from 37-106 and 37-206
  2. [1.00] from 37-212, and one of 37-213, 37-394 or 37-396
  3. [2.00] credits from 300 level lecture courses to fulfill degree requirements as listed below

In addition, students must complete [1.00] credit through any other 300 level lecture courses on offer.

In addition, students must complete [0.50] credit through any other seminar or lecture course on offer.

It is recommended that students take [0.50] at the 200 level in a lecture course.

Honours Program Major

A minimum of [9.00] English credits is required, including:

  1. [1.50] from 37-106 and 37-206
  2. [2.00] from 37-212, 37-213, 37-394, 37-396
  3. [3.50] from 300 level lecture courses which fulfill degree requirements listed below
  4. [1.00] from 400 level seminar courses

In addition, students must take [1.00] credits from any other lecture courses on offer.

It is recommended that students take two 200 level lecture courses.

Honours Program Major Degree Requirements to be fulfilled in part through [3.50] credits from 300 level lecture courses in the following areas:

The M.A. program in English at Guelph gives preference to qualified applicants with a broad experience in literary and cultural studies and related disciplines.

Honours Program Minor

The program of study and requirements are the same as for the area of concentration in the General Program.
